Commencing construction in 2019 this medium density – 30 luxury apartment development is setting a new benchmark for regional, livable medium-density architecture. South West Rocks on the NSW North Coast is a typical coastal community of mixed-use dwellings, humble in nature – however with Australia’s ageing and growing population and housing affordability issues many Australian’s are looking to base themselves in regional towns and as such the fabric and built environment of these towns is changing and being addressed.
The development is situated on a unique site offering both prospect and refuge with views looking over national park, an estuary in the foreground, Mount Yarrahapinni to the horizon and views along the beach to the north.
The solution required harnessing the site opportunities while not detracting from the public realm and natural leafy setting. The design involved 3 independent and staggered buildings with a continuous basement carpark This greatly reduces the bulk of the development as seen from the street and allows views through the site.
