Peak Mojo northern beaches steep site architecture by buck&simple

Under Construction // Peak Mojo

Introducing Peak Mojo, a compact residential project set on one of the steepest and most constrained sites in Sydney.

The site presented a rare convergence of challenges. Extreme slope, limited footprint, difficult access and tight planning controls would lead many to consider the land unbuildable. From the outset, the architecture was shaped by these constraints, using them to inform structure, spatial sequencing and material expression rather than resisting them.

With DA approval in place, the project is now progressing through construction-ready documentation under the direction of Kurt Crisp. Significant focus has been placed on reviewing site access, buildability and construction methodology, ensuring the house can be delivered efficiently on such a steep and exposed site. Structural strategy, staging and material selection have been carefully tested to suit both the terrain and the realities of construction.

The home is designed around passive design principles, leveraging buck&simple’s experience in environmental performance on exposed sites. Orientation, thermal mass, solar control and ventilation have been considered early, allowing the architecture to respond naturally to climate while reducing reliance on mechanical systems.

A robust and timeless palette anchors the building to its setting and provides durability in a highly exposed environment. The architecture is carved into the landscape, stacking spaces vertically to minimise footprint while maximising light, outlook and liveability.

Peak Mojo continues buck&simple’s exploration of complex residential architecture, where steep sites, difficult access and layered constraints become the foundation for clarity, efficiency and enduring residential design.
